So, here is the list of primetime TV serials during the late 80's.
Mondays: NUKKAD
Tuesdays : Hum Log followed by Buniyaad
Wednesdays : Khandaan (my least fav serial)
Thursdays : Sathyajit Ray presents (this one had its moments .... some of them were good episodes)
Fridays : Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (best comedy ever made ... and of course my favourite)
Saturdays : Buniyaad
Sundays : Quiz time by Siddhart Basu with Kavitha (Radha Seth did not match up Kavitha) ... I hardly could answer any question :) ... still it was always a learning experience .... I liked best the way Siddhart said " I beg your pardon !" ... at that time, I said "Ibiggabardon" (though I didn't get the sentence right ... I knew what it meant)
Apart from the primetime serials, there were few other serials which I thoroughly enjoyed:
- Show theme
- Vikram Aur bethal
- Neev
- Indradhanush
- Choti, Badi baatein
- Chote Badein
- Kachchi Dhoop (remember Bhagyashree :)
- Simhasan Battisee
- Spiderman
- Subhah
- Karamchand
- Chunauthi
Thanks Doordarshan for all the above serials and more ......

Here is what tv schedule was in those days:
Up to 1986-87, Tv programs were between 5:30pm and 11pm.
In 87, they started morning program during Summer. Deepak used to be our morning host along with some dummy doll.
This was the the when Ramayana started on Sundays.
That was when time slot looked like... Morning 6:55am to 9am and then evening 5:30pm to 11:00pm.
Night news: 8:40pm and 9:30pm. 9-9:30 was the prime slot.
After few years, things changed - longer sessions with the introduction of afternoon session. This was by 1990-1992.
In 1994-95, afternoon slot grabbed some prime time with Shanti and Swabhiman catching audience.
By this time, timing were from 6AM to midnight. Doordarshan had to compete with cable television now.
Soon, DD went 24 hours.
One thing bugging viewers was hourly 2-minute news in Hindi and English alternatively.
